      GRADUATION (information in description)

      GRADUATION INFORMATION FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS/CADETS

      Behavior and Discipline:
The UMA administration wants to remind you that Senior Pranks and Skip Days are not condoned by the school. The school is committed to filing charges against cadets who trespass on school property or vandalize school property. Also, there are no sanctioned Senior Skip Days. If necessary, the administration will lengthen the senior school calendar to include Monday and Tuesday, May 18th and 19th.

The UMA administration reserves the right to add extra days and/or withhold diplomas as needed. Walking at graduation is a privilege and not a right. Don’t jeopardize your privilege.

      Behavior at Graduation
: On May 20, 2026, Utah Military Academy-Hill Field will conduct its 12th high school commencement exercises. Certain standards have been set to create a dignified commencement exercise. The speakers and performers, who have worked so diligently to prepare for commencement, should be treated with the respect they deserve. Disruption of the ceremonies by the use of air horns, calling out names, throwing of toilet paper, banging pots or pans, blowing up balloons or beach balls, or any other behavior which detracts from the ceremony will not be tolerated.

Students who are inappropriately dressed, who have unpaid fees, and/or who are suspected of using alcohol or drugs will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony. Graduates whose actions are inappropriate for the occasion will be referred to the administration and/or will be removed from the exercises, will not walk across the stage, and will not receive their diploma until they have met with the school administration. Please help us promote a dignified graduation ceremony by demonstrating proper respect and decorum to the graduates, speakers, and performers.

Tickets: Tickets are required for the commencement exercises. On Friday, April 24, each graduate who has paid all of their fees may pick up 5 free tickets at the Front Office and up to 5 additional tickets for $5.00 each for a total of 10. Any unclaimed tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Monday, May 11, for $5.00 each and will continue to be sold up until the ceremony begins or until all tickets are gone.

Time to Arrive and location: The ceremony will be held at the Eclipse Expo A area of the Davis Conference Center in Layton. The address is 651 N700W, Layton, UT., 84041.  Graduates should arrive between 12:30 and 1:00  p.m. with their caps and gowns on and must be in the line-up area by 1:00 p.m.  Commencement exercises will begin promptly at 1:30 p.m. Seating in the auditorium is first-come, first-served. Doors will open for seating at 1:00 pm.

      Parking & Seating:
All parents and guests should be seated by 1:20 p.m. for the processional, which begins promptly at 1:30 pm.

Dress: Graduates, remember that commencement is a formal occasion, so please dress appropriately. Graduates must wear nice shoes and clothing under their gowns, appropriate for any school function. All gowns should be steamed. Do NOT iron as it can melt the fabric. Caps should be worn flat on the head, not at an angle. The tassel should be on the right side. Graduates will keep their caps and gowns after the ceremony. Graduates may decorate their caps, as long as it is tasteful and appropriate. If you are unsure, ask Major Workman, Mr. Dockter, Ms. Pemberton, or Mrs. Horning. If it is not appropriate, they will not be allowed to walk.

Immediately after the ceremony, all graduates need to make their way up onto the stage for a class photo. After the photo, family, guests, and graduates need to make their way out to the designated area for photos and to greet family and guests.
